i love bigfoot conspiracy theories, and so when i started writing this book about an alien, i felt compelled to include this other alien creature i've been fascinated with my whole life. hence, mel, the alien with a big foot! i like to imagine jomny and mel are both distant space explorers, and they keep finding each other on different planets -- so much so that whenever they see each other, it feels like home even though they didn't come from the same home. which is a nice way to describe all sorts of friendships of all kinds, i suppose!
